Update VirusScan Data Files

There are two different ways of updating your data files. With VirusScan 8.7, this process can be either manual or automatic. New Superdat files are available from the Software Downloads site for manual downloading. Superdat updates both the data (DAT) files as well as the scan engine. Version 8.7 comes preconfigured to do AutoUpdate so that you can receive incremental DAT file updates automatically. In addition, AutoUpdate will now use a new SuperDAT file automatically if your DAT files are far enough out of date and will also update your scan engine automatically when needed. Most users will want to just use the preconfigured settings; however, you can modify these settings if desired.

To configure VirusScan to do an automatic update, first open the AntiVirus console. Choose Network Associates/VirusScan Console in the Start menu or right-click the VirusScan icon in the system tray and select Console. In the dialog box that appears, double-click AutoUpdate under "Task." A dialog box appears; do the following:

For example, OIT's repository is set to:

http://vscan.osu.edu/vscanupdate

For "Port," use port 80. Click OK to save the changes. For additional information on configuring AutoUpdate, consult the VirusScan User's Guide.
