NetShield License Agreement
You must read and agree to the following terms before you can begin the download:
This software is provided to you under an agreement between The Ohio State University and McAfee, Inc. Under the terms of the license agreement, current faculty, staff, and students may use this software while they are associated with the university. This license is nontransferable. When you are no longer a current OSU faculty/staff member or a student, you must leave this software with your department and/or remove it from your home computer.
This license is obtained on a two-year term. Should OIT not renew this license, you agree to remove all copies of the software in your control and discontinue all use.
The software is for use on The Ohio State University main and regional campuses and on your home computer. You are authorized to install this software on one computer on campus and on one at home unless specifically authorized by OIT as a departmental computer support representative.
If you are authorized to install multiple copies, you must advise anyone who is using or receiving any of those copies that they are prohibited from distributing, modifying, or making copies of the software, and you must supply them with the terms of this agreement.
This software is protected by both United States copyright laws and international treaty provisions. Each installed copy of the program is registered with the Office of Information Technology as a function of your agreeing with these terms. Archival copies of this software may be made for the sole purpose of backing up your software.

Download NetShield
First read the information that follows about downloading and installing the software and then signify your acceptance of the preceding license terms by clicking below.
Because of licensing restrictions, you'll be connected to a secure sever once you click on the "I agree" link above. You'll be required to enter your OSU Internet username and password to access this server.
Install NetShield
- After the download is finished, you need to uncompress
the setup file.
- Locate the subdirectory where you downloaded the NetShield
software and then double-click on the file nsh463.exe to
begin extracting the files.
- When prompted for an "extract to" directory,
use an empty temporary directory on your hard drive.
- If you already have a version of NetShield installed,
do not extract the setup file into your NetShield directory; doing so
could damage your existing installation.
- Important: It's strongly recommended that you read
the "Readme.txt" file available after files are extracted. It
contains important information about steps you need to complete before
beginning the installation.
- When you're ready to install NetShield, first locate and select the file setup.exe and then follow the on-screen instructions

Update your data files
To configure NetShield for automatic update of data files, do the following:
- Open the Netshield console: click on Start in
the taskbar; select NetShield from the Programs submenu;
and then choose AntiVirus Console.
- Choose AutoUpdate from
the Tools menu.
- The AutoUpdate Properties dialog box appears. Choose
the appropriate distribution options from here.
- For DAT update, click on the Update
Method tab.
- Select Download from an FTP site.
- For the FTP computer name and directory enter: vscan.osu.edu/pub/vscanupdate.
- Select Use Anonymous FTP login.
- For scan engine update, click on the Upgrade
Options tab.
- Select Enable AutoUpgrade of scan engine.
- For the FTP computer name and directory, use the default: ftp.nai.com/pub/antivirus/engine/4.x.
- Select Use anonymous FTP login.
