Mathematica License Agreement - Student Version

This software is provided to you under an agreement between The Ohio State University and Wolfram, Inc. Under the terms of the license agreement, if you are a current part-time or full-time student or student who is registered in a class that recommends or requires Mathematica, you may use this software while you are associated with the university. You may not a) transfer, rent, lease, or sublicense the software, b) decompile, disassemble, reverse-engineer or create a derivative work of the software, or c) use it for commercial gain or profit. When you are no longer a current student, you must remove this software from your computer.

The software is for use on your personal computer only. You are authorized to install this software on one computer.

This software is protected by both United States copyright laws and international treaty provisions. Archival copies of this software may be made for the sole purpose of backing up your software.

First read the information that follows about downloading and installing the software and then signify your acceptance of the preceding license terms by clicking below.

Because of licensing restrictions, you'll be connected to a secure sever once you click on the "I agree" link above. You'll be required to enter your OSU Internet username and password to access this server. Warning: This file is very large; do not attempt to download it using a modem connection unless you're prepared to wait a number of hours for the process to complete.

Install Mathematica

The math-install5_2.sh file is 166 MB. The Build directory will be approximately 300 MB (this makes a total of 466 MB required in the Build directory). The Installation directory will be approximately 380 MB.

Mathematica may be installed without root privileges, but this means you must choose an installation directory and location for the executable to which you have write access. If you want to install in the default location (/usr/local) or someplace like that, you will need to run the math-install5_2.sh file as root.

Choose system type Linux. Types "Linux-AXP" and "Linux-PPC" are not supported in this distribution. Use the following instructions to install the software.

  1. After downloading the math-install5_2.sh file, start the installation by typing:

    ./math-install5_2.sh

    - or -

    sh math-install5_2.sh

    This will extract the archive and begin the installation.

  2. A "Mathematica Installer" dialog box appears; select the type of install and click on the Install button to continue.

  3. Follow the rest of the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Full instructions for completing the registration of your copy of Mathematica are contained in the "readme.txt" file downloaded with the software.
